╗ Version Overview ╗ Info & Screenshot
Move the contents of entire harddisks onto other harddisks or create your own backup solution.
HDClone duplicates the content of harddisks. It copies from one disk to
another on a physical level. Depending on the sizes of the harddisks, a
complete or only a partial image is created.
The Free Edition of HDClone is the ideal tool for moving contents of
entire harddisk drives onto bigger newer ones. This Edition can be
downloaded for free from our homepage and fits easily on a diskette. It
ships with its own operating system - Sphere SP - and is therefore not
depending on other installed systems. When buying a new larger
disk, HDClone copies the data for you, you only have to add the gained
space on the disk via some partitioning tool, and in an instant you
have the same environment as before on a larger (and faster) disk.
The Personal Edition of HDClone is for private users only, companies
should use the Professional Edition. It offers every copying mode
possible with the Professional Edition, but does not ship with
Ultra-DMA support. The Personal Edition allows (in addition to the
features of the the Free Edition) the ability to actually "clone" a
harddisk by copying it to another harddisk of exactly the same size,
and also to move a system from a larger to a smaller disk. The
Backup&Restore-Mode is also available, which saves the contents
from the first half of the disk on the second half. Therefore a running
system can always be kept within reach if the working system crashes.
Current harddisk sizes are so huge, that a complete cloning process
with only PIO transfers would take a very long time. What makes it
worse is that those modern disks are usually slower at PIO than older,
PIO-optimized ones. The Professional Edition now offers support for
Ultra-DMA devices and significantly increases the speed of the copying
process. While the maximum speed of PIO is 16 MB/s (a value never
reached - 8 MB/s is far more realistic), the transfer rate for
Ultra-DMA can reach values up to theoretically 133 MB/s, with 40-60
MB/s well within the reach of modern harddisks.
