Toolbars

This chapter explains how user-interface toolbars are built up and how to use them.

Main bar

The Main bar helps you to do essential browsing:

Tip: Drag and drop the buttons to rearrange them.

Tip: Right-click the Main bar to customize it.

Status bar

The Status bar shows useful information when you point your mouse to different things, both in Web pages and in the user interface.

Tip: Right-click the Status bar to customize it.

Personal bar

Put your favorite bookmarks, bookmark folders and Web searches on the Personal bar, so you can use them quickly and at any time.

To get some items on the Personal bar:

Operation How to do it
Bookmark link and show on Personal bar Drag link from Web page to Personal bar
Show bookmark folder on Personal bar Drag bookmark folder from Hotlist to Personal bar
Add a search field to the Personal bar Enable searches from the View menu.

These are some of the things you can do on the Personal bar:

Operation How to do it
Open link on Personal bar Click the link
Open link in new page Hold Shift and click link
Open link in background Hold Ctrl and Shift, then click link
Open all bookmarks in a folder Click folder and select to open all folder items
Search on the Web Enter text in search field and press Enter

Tip: Right-click an item on the Personal bar to get multiple choices.

Tip: Right-click the Personal bar to customize it.

Page bar

The Page bar lets you access to your open Web pages through nice tabs.

To have some pages to play with:

Operation How to do it
Open link in new page Hold Shift and click a link in a Web page
Open link in the background Hold Ctrl + Shift and click link

When you have some pages, try this on the Page bar:

Toggle between pages Click corresponding tabs
Browse in a new page Double-click empty area right of rightmost tab
Close page Hold Shift and click tab
Open page in new application window Drag tab to computer desktop
Bookmark page Drag tab to Hotlist

Address bar

The Address bar consists of the following items(left to right):

Item Explanation
Padlock icon Check the level of security on a page
Image button Toggle images in the page
Preview button Preview printed version of page
Style button Customize page style
Page icon Drag to Hotlist to create bookmark
Address field Enter Web addresses
Address dropdown Access recently typed addresses
The Go button Go to the address typed in
Search field Search the Web
Search dropdown Select search engine
Search button Execute search
Zoom field Move in closer on page
Zoom dropdown Choose a pre-selected zoom

Tip: Right-click the Address bar to customize it.

Some sites provide a navigation bar to make site navigation easier.

First Go to first page in series of related pages
Previous Go to previous page in series of related pages
Next Go to next page in series of related pages
Last Go to last page in series of related pages
Up Go to page logically "above" current page
Index Go to index for page series
Help Get help using this page
Search Search the site
Copyright Get information about the site
Author Send e-mail to the page author

Tip: Right-click the Navigation bar to customize it.

Tip: Site navigation is also possible through the Navigation menu.

Progress bar

When a page loads, the Progress bar displays the following information (left to right):

  1. How much of the document transferred
  2. Images transferred
  3. Total data transferred
  4. Average transfer speed
  5. Time elapsed since loading started
  6. Textual status of page loading
