A local site requires a name and a local root folder to tell Dreamweaver where you plan to store all of the site's files. You should create a local site for each web site you work on.
Later, when you are ready to publish and test the site on a remote server, you can add additional information about the site. For more information about remote sites, see Defining a site.
To create a local site:
1 | Choose Site > New Site. |
2 | In the Site Definition dialog box, select Local Info from the Category list. |
3 | Enter the following options: |
Site Name Identifies the site. The site name appears in the Site window and on the Site > Open Site submenu.
Local Root Folder Specifies the folder on your hard drive where site files, templates, and library items will be stored. When Dreamweaver resolves root-relative links, it does so relative to this folder. Enter a path or click the folder icon to browse to and select the folder.
HTTP Address Identifies the site URL so that links within the site that use absolute URLs can be verified. See Checking links between documents.
Cache Creates a local cache to improve the speed of link and site management tasks. If you do not select this option, Dreamweaver will prompt you again about creating a cache before it creates the site.
4 | Click OK. |
