This is a basic address book application with space for a large number of contact details. Importing data from other applications can be a problem due to a poor choice of field definitions. In other respects, this is a competent address book, with many fields for each contact. URLs included in contact information are live links, and there is a separate general-purpose Internet bookmarks file. The phone can be dialled directly from a contact entry.

A nifty utility for Mac, this program synchronises and backs up files, folders and disks. You can choose one or more pairs of these items and they will be synchronised or backed up exactly. Features include filters, timers, multiple lists, excluding list, session files and log files. It can synchronise or back up invisible files, locked files, busy files and aliases. It uses a locked buffer memory when copying each file.

Turn each font into a character palette with this tool. It shows you what key code you need to enter to reach the character and then simply drag the desired character or the HTML character code from your palette directly into your document. It allows you to database a collection of your favourite special characters across all fonts. The next time you need one of your special characters, simply open your favourites and drag the character into place.

This is a free collection of favourite screensavers from the early Mac years, greatly enhanced by the modern Mac's processing power. Splines are there, as well as circles, fireworks, the wandering polygon, planets and Warp. A new one, Babelblox, is almost worth downloading on its own. There will be better Mac OS X screensavers than this, but in terms of nostalgia value, this could be the champ.

The FTP/HTTP file transfer engine for which Interarchy is best known has been rewritten to take advantage of Mac OS X. It now claims to provide the fastest FTP/HTTP file transfer speeds of any Mac application. Its user-friendly interface helps you search the Internet to find the files you want and provides a wealth of information about remote servers, as well as your local Internet connection and Internet applications.

A hierarchical file browser for your hard disk is this product's basic function, similar to the Mac OS X Finder's column view, but more sophisticated. This program is a successor to Apple's NotePad desk accessory, but implements some key Mac OS X technologies such as the Color and Font palettes and a text ruler to make it much more elegant and flexible. Using Mac OS X's Services menu, text can be copied from any Carbon application directly to a note, even if the Notes application is not open at the time. Notes are individually named and text can be transferred between notes.

You do not require a Palm handheld computer to use this product, although it can synchronise with one if required. It provides a highly flexible appointment diary and contact database. Appointments can be linked to contacts, tasks and notes. There are daily, weekly and monthly diary views. When your appointments are printed, the related contact details, notes and tasks are printed as well, giving you a valuable 'carry around' reference.

A text editor targeted at programmers, script coders and HTML writers, this program is powerful yet easy to use. It can be used for any task that involves working with plain text and is a descendant of the popular Pe for BeOS. It is more than a port, offering many new features and interface enhancements. You can have your HTML, C, Pascal and other files' syntax styled, selecting colour, font, size and style for each element type.
