How to change the Search Page in
Internet Explorer 3.0?

One of the best search engines is Alta Vista, and what's even better is that Telstra has a copy or 'mirror' of the entire Alta Vista database located here in Australia -- the address is www.altavista.yellowpages.com.au. It still scours every site in the world, it's just that having your browser visit the local site is much faster than fighting its way through the pack to the very busy US server.

Here's how to set up Internet Explorer 3.0 so you can jump to the local Alta Vista engine by clicking the toolbar's Search Page icon.

1. From the IE3 menu choose View, Options.

2. Click the Navigation tab. Under the Customise heading you'll see a drop-down list labelled Page; click this to show Search Page.

3. Enter the address of the local Alta Vista page, then click the OK button.

You can use this same dialogue box to change the default start page and any of the five 'quick links' to other Web sites which appear in Internet Explorer 3.0's sliding Links bar under the main menu and toolbar.
