Edit Points

Edit points allow the user to write in textural information using either the stylus or keyboard.

The Edit point has two modes: free-text mode and numeric mode. In free text mode the user is able to enter any information, while numeric mode forces the user to enter a numeric value. Other optional restrictions can also be applied in numeric mode.

If desired, a range restriction can be applied to the Edit point in numeric mode. This sets a minimum and maximum acceptable value, which can be useful where the user is being requested to assess the degree of a situation on a scale of, for example, 1 to 10.

Numeric mode Edit points can display "Up/Down" or "Spin" controls, which increment or decrement the value with a simple tap or click. The Limit control enables a limit to the number of characters entered in the Edit point.

On-screen, Edit points appear as a caption followed by an entry box. The number of lines available in the entry box can be configured, allowing for larger blocks of text such as notes or descriptions. Additionally, the entry box can be displayed inline with the caption to save vertical space.

The data from an Edit point are equal to the data input by the user, or blank if no data was input.
