All of the following software can be found on the PC User Offline CD-ROM

Windows 95

As you can see from this new style folder view, when you unleash Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview on your Desktop you get an operating system overhaul as well as an all-new browser. However, you may also unleash system instability and a raft of other problems if you're not prepared to deal with software that is very much in the testing phase.
Internet Explorer 4.0

Platform Preview: Be warned!
In April, Microsoft released a "Platform Preview" of Internet Explorer 4.0. This product is not only a major upgrade to the IE browser, it also does a complete makeover of your Windows 95 interface.

If you've been tempted to download it (all 11Mb worth in the smallest version 20Mb with all the interesting add-ons) you should keep firmly in mind who the release is intended for. Firstly, this release is absolutely guaranteed to have bugs -- nice big ones that will crash your system. That's because its sole purpose is to give software developers a chance to assess the lay of the land as far as the next release of Internet Explorer. It's not intended to be used as your only browser, nor on your only machine. It's not intended to be a 100 percent robust release.

By the time you read this, Microsoft may well have issued the broader public beta version of IE 4.0. Even this version, as a beta, will have bugs and shouldn't be installed by the faint of heart.

On the other hand, IE 4.0 is definitely the coolest and most fascinating thing to happen since the release of Windows 95 in August 1995. So, if you have the confidence and backup to play with it, you can download it from www.microsoft.com/ie/ie40/download/ or -- a much better deal -- grab it from this month's PC User CD-ROM.

On the PC User Offline CD-ROM the version of IE 4.0 provided is unfortunately incomplete
