Telstra Internet

Also trading as Big Pond Direct, Telstra Internet roots begin in AARNet - the first Internet network in Australia. Telstra bought out AARNet in 1995, and have since run the country's largest Internet infrastructure.

Telstra Internet is a separate line of business of Telstra Corporation, mandated to provide Australia's predominant backbone internet service. In this way, Telstra Internet is a National Network Provider for Australia much like Sprint and MCI are in the States.

The Telstra Big Pond Direct service is based on an optimally configured highspeed national and international data network consisting of Cisco routers and high speed Telstra network services. This Telstra Internet network connects to the global Internet via 50Mbps to MCI International in the USA. Australia's most expert staff, running a number of customised computer systems, provide the Internet know-how and keep it running.

TI has maintenance coverage from Brisbane to Perth, Hobart to Darwin. Any time zone, anytime!
