What others have asked

Q. I'm having problems opening up some help files (but not the Windows 98 help file). When I try to open the help in Word or Excel or other programs, I get the following message: 'There's not enough memory to run this program, quit one or more programs and try again'. When I hit OK another message appears: 'There's not enough memory to start WINHLP32.exe, quit some programs and start again'. I have 32Mb of RAM and 80 percent free system resources. I've fixed this before by reloading Windows 98 but I don't want to keep reloading the OS to fix this problem.

Q. I currently work in the South Pacific and need to run an old MS-DOS ledger program called Turbo Ledger on my notebook PC. For some reason I can't get this to run properly on my notebook as it runs once after the machine is booted, but displays 'Runtime error 200 at 27C0:0091' if it is re-run.

I can't get it to run even once I restart the machine in MS-DOS mode, however, I can get the program to run perfectly on a number of other machines running Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95 or Windows 98.

Q. I'm experiencing problems with MS-DOS Compatibility mode when running Windows 98 on a 486. From Microsoft's technical notes, I learned that the contents of the IOS.LOG file may be significant. My IOS.LOG file has the following information in it: Unit number 02 going through real mode drivers.

Q. I'm experiencing problems with incompatible hardware. Would using the OEM version of Windows 98 solve my problems?

Q. I've recently installed MS Office 97 and I experience a General Protection Fault when I turn on the computer, or open PowerPoint or Outlook. The details of the message are: MMTASK caused a general protection fault in module CM8330.DRV at 00006:0000196c. I've recently been trying to install my HP Scanjet 2c, but there doesn't seem t be any conflict with the applications.
