Q: How do I play HDD over a LAN (Local Area Network)?
|
A: In the “Network Game” menu, go to
the “Network Settings” submenu and select either TCP/IP or IPX
protocol, depending on how the local network (LAN) is configured (the usual
connection type for LANs is TCP/IP). When hosting a game on a LAN, it
immediately becomes available and visible over the entire network, so both
the host and the client(s) can leave the “Address” and “Port” settings
empty. One player hosts the game; one to three other players can then join
him. |
Q: How do I play HDD over the Internet? |
A: In the “Network Game” menu, go to
the “Network Settings submenu and select TCP/IP protocol. For anybody
to join an on-line game, they will need to know the hosts “IP address”
and potentially their “port number”. To host your own game simply
click on “Host Game” menu item and wait for other players to join. The
easier way is to use a matchmaking service, ideally “Game Spy”, which
comes included with the game. Simply use the H&D Deluxe room in “Game
Spy” to chat, and to connect to games hosted by other players. |
Q: Can I play HDD with modem? |
A: HDD can be played with a modem, but the
game will run much better using a Broadband connection (cable, ISDN etc). If
you do use a modem, you will have to ensure that you are connected to the
Internet, before you can play HDD. |
Q: Can I save my game in Multiplayer? |
A: No. |
Q: How do I play my single player save game in
multiplayer? |
A: There’s only one profile for both single
player and multiplayer games. When players connect, the host’s game profile
is used in the game. Also, the host selects which mission to attempt, and
chooses the weapons for each player, etc. When the mission is finished, the
host’s game profile is updated and saved, but any profiles of joining players
are left unchanged. |
Q: What do I put in the Port setting? |
A: Leave it blank; unless you are connecting
to a host who is using a firewall, then you will need to get an open Port
from them. |
Q: What do I put in for my IP address? |
A: You enter the “IP address” of the
host you are connecting to, not your own. If you are the host, the “IP
address” field is ignored, as people will be joining you, using your “IP
address”. If you connect through “Game Spy”, the “IP
address” is passed for you on a command-line when the game is launched,
meaning you do not need to specify an “IP address”. |
Q: How do I set up Voice Chat? |
A: “Voice Chat” functionality is built
in to the game. You do not need any additional software to enable you to
communicate with other players. All participants who want to use “Voice
Chat” need to check the “Voice Chat” checkbox in the “Network
Settings” menu. If you do not check this, you will not be able to chat
with others, or hear what others are saying. “Voice
Chat” is initialised
once players see each other in the host/join room. |
Q: “Voice chat” is still not working, what
should I do? |
A: You must configure your
microphone/headphones to run properly, by setting up the correct volume, etc.
An easy way to get “Voice chat” working is by choosing the “Voice
chat test” menu item from the “Network Settings” menu. A Sound
Hardware Test Wizard will then help you configure your “Voice Chat”
equipment and set up the correct volumes. Also, check the
microphone/headphones are inserted in to the PC correctly. |
Q: What is “Voice Chat compression”, and
should I care? |
A: Note that only the host will be able to
choose the level of voice compression. Selections of joined players are
ignored. There is
a range of available levels of compression. These choices span from 1.2
Kb/sec to 64 Kb/sec. If you’re playing on a modem, you’ll probably want to
select the higher compression setting (1.2 or 3.2 Kb/sec), maintaining game
speed but reducing “Voice chat” quality. If you’re playing on a
fast line, or on a LAN, you may select a lower level of compression giving
you better “Voice chat” quality. Below are the details about compression codecs: - DirectPlay Voice uses the following codecs via
the Windows ACM: -
Microsoft ADPCM -
Microsoft GSM - DSP
Group Truespeech - Installation of these codecs with Windows is
optional. If they are not
installed, then one or more of the compression types in
DirectPlay Voice will not function. If the user attempts to use a
compression type that is not functional due to a missing ACM
codec, HDD will choose the next best available codec. - In Windows 98 and 98se, the user can install
these codecs through the Add New Hardware
wizard. When prompted, the user should select "No,
I want to select the hardware from a list". In the list of device
types, codecs are listed under "Sound video and game
controllers". The codecs are listed under two manufacturers. The ADPCM
and GSM codecs are listed under "Microsoft Audio
Codecs", and the Truespeech codec is listed under "DSP
Group". - On Windows 2000/me, the user can install these
codecs through the
Add/Remove Hardware wizard. The user should select
"Add/Troubleshoot a device". When a list of hardware is
presented, the user
should select "Add a new device", then on the next page,
select "No, I want to select the hardware from a list". This will
bring up a list of hardware. Select "Sound, video, and game
controllers". The "Audio Codecs" item is listed under
"(Standard system devices)". |
Q:
Can I play a multiplayer game with my friend who has the original Hidden and
Dangerous or H&D: Fight For Freedom? |
A:
No. H&D Deluxe has so many changes, that this is not possible. |
Q: How do I play Hidden and Dangerous
Deluxe in GameSpy Arcade? |
A: You can play Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe
online through GameSpy Arcade, which comes conveniently bundled with the game. If you haven’t done so already, insert
your Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe CD and install Arcade now. Then, to
play Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe online, just follow these simple
instructions: Launch
GameSpy Arcade and Go to the Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe Room: Click on the GameSpy Arcade link
in your Start Menu. When the software starts, you’ll see a list of games and
more along the left-hand side. There’s plenty to do, but there’s time for
that later: Click on the Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe button on the
left to enter the Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe room. Find
or Start a Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe Server: Once you’re in the Hidden and
Dangerous Deluxe room you can meet or greet other players, find players
initiating a game or start your own game. The top half of the application
will list all of the available games, including the number of people waiting
and your connection speed (measured by something called “ping.” The lower
your ping, the better.) Don’t like any games? Click on the “Create Room” button
to start your own game and wait for people to sign up. (A clever game name,
such as “Let’s show them who’s king!” usually attracts people).
Otherwise, double-click on a game of your choice to join in. Joining
and Starting a game: Once you double-click on a game or start your own, you’ll be in a
staging room, in which you can trash talk with your fellow players and
prepare for combat. When you’re ready
to play, click the “Ready” button at the top of the screen. When everyone in the room has signalled their
readiness, the host can then launch the game. Arcade will fire up Hidden
and Dangerous Deluxe and the carnage will begin! Problems?
If you
have problems using Arcade, whether installing the program, registering it,
or using it in conjunction with Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe, consult
our help pages, located at http://www.gamespyarcade.com/help/
or e-mail us by using the form located at http://www.gamespyarcade.com/support/contact.shtml. |

Q:
Do I need 2 (or more) H&D CD's to play a network game? |
A:
Yes, you need one CD for each player. |
Q:
Can I use save games from the original H&D? |
A:
No, game profiles and saved games are not compatible with original H&D. |
Q:
Is H&D Patch 1.3 compatible with H&D Deluxe? |
A:
No. Patching HDD will not do anything. |
Q: How do
I get my teammates off of the boat?
|
A:
A boat is like a vehicle – soldiers must use it in order to board it.
To use a boat, place a soldier in centre, or next to the cabin door. Now
press the use key again (which defaults to U) to enter the “use” mode.
You may appear either in front of the boat, by a mounted gun, as the driver
inside cabin, or at the back of the boat. To leave the boat, simply press the
use key again (which defaults to U) and you’ll appear in the centre of the
boat, able to move freely again. |
Q: How do
I zoom in sniper mode?
|
A:
Hold the right mouse button down (or default zoom key “Z”) and move
the mouse forward and backward to zoom in and out. |
Q: How do
I use ladders?
|
A:
To climb down a ladder, back right up to the edge of the ladder, and then
press the “use” key (which defaults to “U”) your character will
now be using the ladder, pressing the forwards and backwards keys (which
default to “cursor up” and “cursor down”) will now move the
character up and down the ladder. To climb up a ladder, the process is the
same, but the character must be facing the base of the ladder when he presses
“use”. When the character reaches the top or the bottom of the ladder,
he will automatically step off. |
Q: How do
I drive vehicles? I can get in, but can’t make them move.
|
A:
When you get in to a vehicle, press “cursor
up” (this is the default) just like moving your character forwards. If it
sounds like the engine is turning over and not starting, then it has no fuel;
therefore, you can't drive it. If there is fuel, the amount will be shown in
the top left corner of the screen, and you can then control the vehicle using
the “Cursor Keys” (this is the default): forwards to accelerate,
backwards to brake and left/right to steer. |
Q: Can I
drive vehicle and use heavy cannon mounted to it simultaneously?
|
A:
Yes. In single player mode. You must
place a man in both the drivers’ position and on the mounted heavy gun position.
Then switch to the character using the mounted weapon, and you’re done – you
can now drive using the “Cursor Keys” (this is the default) and
independently use the mounted machine gun with the mouse. |
