Our History - Our Philosophy - Our Commitment

Celebrating its Twentieth Anniversary in April 1996, Online Inc. is the premier publisher of publications and products for the rapidly growing information industry. In conjunction with this special anniversary, Online Inc. launched the Online Inc. Corporate WWW Site. A tour of this Web site introduces visitors to the world of Online Inc.--its products, its mission, and its commitment to providing high-quality editorial coverage for today's electronic information industry.

Founded in 1976, Online Inc. began firmly rooted in meeting the needs of a then small but growing group of electronic information users. Over the years, the technology has taken shape and the group of users has grown but Online Inc. remains committed to providing practical, how-to coverage of rapidly evolving technologies.

The first issue of ONLINE magazine was published in 1977 at the beginning of the online era. In 1978, DATABASE magazine was launched to offer even more in-depth coverage of electronic databases. The following year, the first ONLINE Conference was held to provide practical, how-to coverage of new information technologies. In 1988, the first issue of CD-ROM Professional (now EMedia Professional), one of the first publications for the growing CD-ROM industry, was published.

Today, ONLINE USER magazine, the Pemberton Press book imprint, and the new ONLINE World Conference & Exposition join these three pioneering publications to provide high-quality editorial and conference opportunities for users of electronic information.

Publications, Products and Services For The Information Age

EMedia Professional is the technology and business magazine for electronic media producers and users, covering electronic publishing standards, strategies, and tools; CD-ROM and CD-R in network and data storage applications; marketing and distribution; and the nexus of Internet and Intranet and CD-ROM. The magazine offers news, product reviews, and critical perspective for developers and publishers of CD-ROM titles; vendors creating and selling CD-ROM and multimedia hardware, software, and services; and professionals using CD-ROM technology in-house.

DATABASE concentrates on the use and creation of databases, regardless of delivery medium... From CD-ROM and other optical media to tape and hard disk storage to online services. Reviews, surveys, guides, charts and examples are all provided in DATABASE. Articles probe the details of effective and efficient database use. Any person searching databases will benefit from the expert wisdom provided by some of today's leading online database searchers.

ONLINE is written and edited for information professionals and features practical articles and columns about online and the Internet. It covers the entire range of online topics including online industry trends, new technologies, the Internet, and practical online searching tips and techniques for online users, as well as management of end-user services. Industry and technology coverage is balanced with practical, how-to articles about online/Internet services, features, and new enhancements. First published in 1977, ONLINE is the oldest and most widely respected publication about online information.

ONLINE USER is a practical, how-to magazine edited to lead readers who are not information professionals into the world of online with articles that teach, entice and encourage going online. Articles are targeted to help readers learn how to use online products and resources effectively to do their jobs better. In addition, it is designed to inspire readers with success stories of how timely, relevant information cinched a deal, found new customers, or avoided a big mistake. The readers are people who use online in their work, but whose primary responsibility is something other than information retrieval. Online is one of their tools, but not their focus. This audience includes those involved in Marketing, Research & Development, Public Relations, Communications, Planning, MIS, Network Management, Sales, Finance, Law & Government, the Media and more.

Books, Conferences, and Web Site Development

ONLINE WORLD Expo and Conference is a conference for knowledge workers, online professionals, and people in business, media, technology and the professions who use electronic information resources for research and decision making. The focus of the show is on the practical use of online and the Internet in the business and corporate arena. ONLINE WORLD features sessions especially designed for Online Users, Information Managers, and Information Professionals.
