Installing LineOne's software

To start using LineOne you need to have Internet software installed on your computer. The LineOne CD includes Microsoft Internet Explorer browser software along with email and newsgroup reader software.

To install the LineOne software follow the instructions on the LineOne CD sleeve and then the on-screen instructions.

Before you install the LineOne software...

If you have had accounts with other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) it is a good idea to remove any unwanted connection settings before installing LineOne:

1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and then the Dial-Up Networking folder.
2. You should see at least one icon: Make New Connection. Do not try to delete this icon.
3. If you see any other icons you can delete them by clicking on the icon to highlight it and selecting Delete from the File menu.

Problems connecting to LineOne registration...

At the end of the installation process your computer should automatically restart and connect you to the LineOne registration page. If it does not, try the following:

1. Remove all disks from their drives and restart your computer.
2. Double-click on the Internet Explorer or Browse the Internet icon (the picture of a globe with a magnifying glass) on the desktop

Connecting to LineOne registration manually...

If you are still experiencing problems connecting to the registration page, or if you already have Internet software on your computer and do not wish to install the LineOne software, follow the instructions below to connect directly to the LineOne registration page:

1. Double-click on the LineOne or Internet Explorer icon on the desktop to open the Connect To window.
2. Enter the following details until you have registered:

3. Click the Connect button to connect to LineOne.
4. Once you are connected open your browser and go to http://reg.lineone.net to register with LineOne.

In order to register with LineOne you will need to supply us with the following information:

Setting up your LineOne software...

At the end of registration you will be asked if you wish to download the automatic setup file to setup your Internet software with your new LineOne settings. If you are using a Netscape Internet browser, or if you want to preserve your existing software settings, use the details below to setup your software manually.

Connecting to LineOne

After downloading the automatic setup file your connections settings should have been setup automatically.

To connect to LineOne simply double-click on the LineOne, Internet Explorer or Browse the Internet icon on the desktop.

Each time you connect to LineOne, you'll see the Login page - your gateway to the LineOne service. To login to LineOne type your LineOne username (e.g. john.smith) into the first box, your password into the second box and click Enter.

When logging in to LineOne please remember:

Note that selecting the automatic login will allow anyone else using your computer access to your LineOne account. Do not use the automatic login if you are going to setup sub-accounts with restricted access.

Checking Your Windows Outlook Express Mail Settings

1. Open Outlook Express from the Start menu, by selecting the Read Mail option from the Mail menu in the Internet Explorer toolbar, or by double-clicking on the Outlook Express icon on the desktop.
2. From the Tools menu in Outlook Express select the Accounts option and make sure that the Mail tab is selected.
3. From the list of accounts, click on the Account that you want to change and click the Properties button.
4. Click on the General tab and check that the name you wish recipients to see (e.g. John Smith) appears in the Name box.
5. Check that your full email address (e.g. john.smith@lineone.net) appears in both the E-mail address and Reply address boxes.
6. Click on the Servers tab and check the following settings:

7. Click on the Connection tab and make sure that you have the Connect using my phone line option selected. Check that LineOne is selected as your Dial-up Networking connection.
8. Click on the Advanced tab and make sure that the Leave a copy of message on server option is NOT selected.
9. Click OK to save your settings and return to Outlook Express.

LineOne Webmail

LineOne's Webmail gives you easy access to your email from any computer connected to the Internet without having to use your everyday email software.

Although Webmail allows you to send and receive email from any computer with an Internet connection, it does not provide the flexibility or additional benefits of standard email software. See the Email Software help page for help using email software such as Internet News, MS Exchange or Outlook Express.

Opening Webmail:

To open Webmail, login to LineOne from any computer and click on the 'Check your email' link to view your Webmail Mailbox.

Using Webmail:

To read a message, click on the sender's name. To create a new message, click the Compose button.

You can also delete a message without opening it by clicking the Delete button to its right. To close your mailbox and log out of Webmail, click the Close Mailbox button. Once you have opened a message, you can reply to it, forward it to someone else, or delete it.

The Reply To, Forward and Delete buttons are located above and below the open message.

Use the Mailbox button to return to your mailbox at any time.

To compose a new message, or reply to an existing message, type in the title/subject, the recipient's email address and the text of your message as appropriate and click the Send button.

Please note the following points:

Checking Your Windows Outlook Express News Settings

1. Open Outlook Express from the Start menu, or by double-clicking on the Outlook Express icon on your computer's desktop.
2. From the Go menu choose News to display the Internet Connection Wizard.
3. In the Display name box enter your full name (i.e. the name you want people to see when you post a message in the forums).
4. Click the Next button.
5. Enter your email address (e.g. john.smith@lineone.net).
6. Enter bbs.lineone.net in the News Server box. Ensure that the My news server requires me to log on option is selected.
7. Ensure that the News Account Name box contains your LineOne username (e.g. john.smith). Enter your LineOne password in the Password box.
8. Choose a name for the bbs.lineone.net Server details (e.g. LineOne Forums).
9. Select the Connect using phone line option.
10. On the next screen, select the Use an existing dial-up connection option. Highlight the connection you are using to connect to LineOne.
11. Click Next and then Finish.
12. A window will be displayed announcing that you have not yet subscribed to any newsgroups. Click Yes to subscribe.
13. If you are not yet connected to LineOne you will be prompted to connect. Click Yes, then enter your full email address (e.g. john.smith@lineone.net), and your LineOne password (case sensitive) and click OK. The names of the available forums will download to your computer and be presented in a list.
