Shortcuts to the most frequently used options of the Commander

1st JAVA Navigator - Commander - New button New
Clears all current Commander information.
A new applet style and/or theme may then be chosen.

1st JAVA Navigator - Commander - Open button Open
Opens an existing "HTML" file which includes one of the three 1st JAVA Navigator applets.

Note
Notes
The Open dialog box is a standard Windows 'File Open' dialog box.  This option is used to open an existing 1st JAVA Navigator "HTML" file, so that it can be modified.

The Commander will generate an error message if it is unable to locate the 1st JAVA Navigator in the HTML file.

If opening a recently used file, under the "File" menu, there will be a history of the last four (4) files opened by the Commander.

To update files which were originally created using an older version of the 1st JAVA Navigator, just open the file with the new Commander, and then hit the Save button.

The 1st JAVA Navigator is as "Backwards Compatible" as possible. In most cases, earlier versions of the 1st JAVA Navigator are able to be imported.  However, we are unable to give a 100% guarantee that all HTML files will be successfully imported because there are a myriad of different possible implementations.

Note Trouble shooting:
If you experience any problems importing an HTML file that includes one of the three  applets, then it is usually because:

Problem 1:
The applet parameters were written or altered by hand, without using the Commander, so the syntax is now incorrect.
Solution:
Check through the syntax for any spelling errors (typos), missing semi colons ( ; ) etc and ENSURE that the correct case was used.
(REMEMBER: UNIX servers are CASE-SENSITIVE, Windows servers are NOT!)

Problem 2:
Error message: "The class file directory could not be found so it was reset to the default."
This message means that the class files will now be placed in the same directory as the HTML file (unless the location is changed again by the user).
The class files have been either relocated or deleted, so the Commander cannot locate them.
Solution:
As the message indicates, the class file location had been altered (by the user) so the Commander could not find them. It therefore, re-set to the default values (unless the location is changed again by the user).
