Reginfo
Reginfo is a tool for determining registration information.
It is intended for use with Templeton©.
When an unregistered version of Templeton is run
interactively, Templeton displays
the registration information before retrieving files.
But, when Templeton runs non-interactively it does not display the
registration information.
(Note: Registered versions of Templeton do not display the registration
information.)
Reginfo can be used to display the available registration information.
The registration information is used to generate a registration code
for licensed users.
How to use Reginfo
To use Reginfo, run the executable at the command prompt.
The program will display registration information, including:
- Unique machine code.
This is a unique identification associated with the computer.
Changing CPUs, memory, hard drives, monitors, or periferals should not
affect this identification.
If you register the unique machine code and later replace your system,
requiring a new registration code, please let us know the new machine
code. We will replace the registration code at no charge.
Note: We reserve the right to refuse multiple (or rapidly requested)
replacement registration codes.
- IP address.
For computers with networks (ethernet, PPP, ISDN, etc.), the registration
code can be based around the IP address of the computer.
Additionally, the registration code can either be for a single IP address
or for an arbitrary subnet.
This is ideal for systems with "perminant" IP addresses or large
computer installations -- rather than dealing with many machine codes,
they only need to maintain a single registration code for their network.
Additionally, people who frequently upgrade systems but who maintain
a constant IP address should find this registration method perferable.
Registering an IP address for a constantly changing network connection
is not recommended. This includes dial-up Internet Service Providers (ISP)
which dynamically issue a different IP address each time you connect.
Some IP addresses and subnets cannot be registered. These include
addresses defined by RFC 1597 and reserved by the system:
- IP address 127.0.0.1
This is the "loopback" address and is present on all networked
systems.
- Network 10.0.0.0 with subnet mask 255.0.0.0
Any IP address beginning with "10."
are reserved for private networks and not for world-wide internet use.
- Network 172.16.0.0 with subnet mask 255.240.0.0
IP addresses 172.16.0.0 through 172.31.255.255
are reserved for private networks and not for world-wide internet use.
- Network 192.168.0.0 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0
IP addresses 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.255
are reserved for private networks and not for world-wide internet use.
If you register an IP address or subnet and later change IP addresses
(such as a different ISDN line or resubnetting a department), please let
us know and we will provide replacement registration codes.
Note: We reserve the right to refuse multiple (or rapidly requested)
replacement registration codes.
