Parameters Overview

The number of parameters you need to enter depends a lot on the number of 'folders' and 'pages' you want to use. The first vital parameter specifies the number of folders you want. A folder then takes at least 2 parameters, specifying the label for the folder and the number of pages it contains. Each page needs at least 2 parameters as well, giving the label to display and the associated URL. You can optionally specify a status-bar message for each folder and page, and a frame name for each page's URL.

All the other parameters have defaults that may fit the result you want. There are three separate fonts (Folder labels, Page labels, and Menu heading), and a whole bundle of color parameters to set up the applet background, and the unfocussed/focussed/clicked colors of the folder and page labels. A single parameter lets you switch between light-colored and dark-colored sets of outline images.

The menu heading (shown on the Example page) has its own set of parameters to specify an image to use, the text for the heading, and the horizontal indent of the heading. The heading has its own color parameter, plus a 3D text effect with 3 possible settings to make it easier to find a setting that works with your color combination. An 'offset' parameter sets the distance between the top of the applet-area and the top of the menu itself, to let you slot in an image of any height.

Sound-support is provided by a single parameter which toggles 'on' or 'off'. The names of the sound files are hard-coded, but you can create your own and give them the same names (or skirt that irritating 'creation' process by downloading the SoundPack). The final parameter is probably the simplest, but it's the one I like best: you can define a default target frame. If you use a standard 2-frame layout for your site, you can enter the name of the main frame just once in this parameter instead of entering it into a separate Target parameter for every page. Why don't all menu applets do that?
