About This Document

This manual provides an introduction to the world of Meridian 59. It doesn't explain everything, however. Be aware that Meridian is a huge world populated with all types of creatures and all sorts of people -- not all of them nice.

How this Manual is Organized

This manual is organized as follows:

• Chapter 1, "Getting Started" leads you through the process of installing the game software on your computer, getting on-line, and entering Meridian 59's world of adventure.
• Chapter 2, "Your Character" takes you through the process of choosing your character's appearance and attributes, and shows how your persona can change as you spend time in Meridian 59.
• Chapter 3, "The World of Meridian 59" is your introduction to the Meridian 59 World Screen, where all of the action takes place -- communication, exploration, combat, and commerce. Understanding the icons, windows, and slider bars on this screen is essential knowledge for any citizen of Meridian 59.

If you read only one chapter in this manual, make it this one.

• Chapter 4, "People" is your introduction to the customs and traditions that shape the culture and community of Meridian 59. In the pages that follow, you'll learn how to share information with other citizens through the newsglobes, Meridian Mail, and real-time chat. You'll learn about Meridian's social hierarchy, including the important Guild system. And you'll gain a passing acquaintance with some of the land's permanent residents -- friendly and hostile, human and otherwise
• Chapter 6, "Places" tells you how to get around, and what you'll find when you get there.
• Chapter 7, "Things: Your Worldly Goods" is your basic guide to getting it, using it, and keeping track of it all.
• Chapter 8, "Skills and Spells" describes the skills and spells available to you (and against you) in Meridian 59.
• Chapter 9, "How to Reach Us" tells you how to contact us via the Web, e-mail, fax, or phone.
• Chapter 10, "Credits" tells you who did what on this amazing project. These people slaved like veritable zombies from the Crypt to bring you this wonderful world of Meridian 59.
• "Index" lists the key words and items in this manual.
