Newsglobes

The Newsglobes are a sort of all-purpose information exchange utility serving all of Meridian 59. There are four distinct types of Newsglobes scattered throughout the various townships:

• Public Newsglobes -- Generally found in outdoor locations and Adventurers' Halls, these newsglobes are places where you can post and respond to public messages. They are full of useful information, particularly for new citizens.
• Guardian Newsglobes --These channel communcation from the Guardians, a mystic race of powerful entities who are responsible for maintaining the balance of chaos and order in the Meridian universe. (More about them later in this chapter.) Their newsglobes, located in inns, offer special news and information to Meridian citizens. You may not respond to them: the channel is one way only.
• Guild Newsglobes-- These are located in guildhouses, where they serve as members-only information conduits. Non-members who find their way into a guildhouse may also have access to the guild's newsglobe.
• The Guild Charter Newsglobe -- This is a special newsglobe located in the Guild Creator's home. Only guildmasters can post messages here, but if you're looking for a guild to join, this is the first place to look.

Using Newsglobes

When a newsglobe appears in the Action Window, right-click on it to open it. The window that appears looks like this:

The Messages list at the top shows you all the messages currently posted at this newsphere. Click on any message to open and read it.

The Options buttons allow you to add your own comments to the thread. Here's how they work:

• Reply -- You may want to post a public response to one of the messages on the list. Here's how:

1. Highlight one of the existing messages on the list above, then click the Reply button.
2. Type your response in the notepad window provided.
3. Click OK to post it in the Newsphere. To leave the Reply window without posting your message, click Cancel.

• Mail Author -- Instead of writing a public response, you may prefer to send a private mail message to the author of the original message. Here's how:

1. Highlight the original message, and click the Mail Author button.
2. Type your response in the window provided (it's already addressed to the right person).
3. Click OK to send your message via Meridian Mail. To leave the Mail Author window without sending a message, click Cancel.

• Post -- Click this button when you want to write a new message and post it to the newsphere. (Note that this is NOT where you create a Meridian Mail message: any message created with this command will be seen by all your fellow Meridian 59 citizens!)

1. Click the Post button.
2. Type in subject title, and press Tab. Next, type the message in the space provided.
3. Click Post to send, or Cancel to leave the window and cancel your message.

• Rescan -- Sometimes, while you're reading a long list of messages, new messages will arrive in the Newsglobe. You may want to click Rescan periodically to update the message list, ensuring that the news you're seeing is the freshest available.
• Close -- Click this button to leave the Newsglobe and resume your regularly scheduled life.
