Meridian 59 User's Guide The Latency Meter
The Latency Meter indicates approximately how much time delay there is between your computer and the 3DO server. The faster the cube spins, the better your current connection is. When you Right Click on the cube, it will tell you the latency in milliseconds (1000th of a second), this is the amount of time it takes a message to get from your computer to the 3DO server and back again. Here is a brief description of what the cube colors mean:
Sometimes, if your character dies while your computer is experiencing extremely high latency, the death will be considered a "latency death" and your character will not suffer the usual item and permanent point loss. For more information on Latency and what you can do to decrease it, please refer to the 3DO Latency Help Page.
Profanity FilterWhen active, the Profanity Filter will check incoming messages for certain listed words and either ignore the entire message or replace the words in question with symbols. The default setting contains many words that are commonly considered profane. If you wish to add additional words to be filtered, simply type the word in the input box and click on the Add as Profane Term button. To delete words from this list, type them in the input box and select the Remove Term button. Additionally, you may check the extra search for suspected embedded profanity box to find profanity that is hidden. However, because this process looks at letters near each other in different words it may find objectionable terms where none were intended. This option is defaulted off.
