Quick Reference Card

Keyboard commands work only when the "focus" is on the appropriate area. Focus is shown by a yellow box around the window. You can shift the focus by pressing tab or shift-tab or by clicking on one of the four windows.

Things to do on your first visit to Meridian

• You have a mace in your inventory; be prepared to use it! To wield your mace, right-click on it (to examine it), and then click the use button.
• Try saying something. Type say hello. If someone responds, strike up a conversation. If it is the Innkeeper, type say help. He may have a helpful hint.
• Examine your map. Press backspace or click the map button to see the map. You are represented by a blue arrow, and your fellow players are represented by blue dots. You can zoom in and zoom out with the + and - keys on the number pad. Turn in a circle with the left and right arrow keys, and more of the map will be come visible.
• Leave the inn. Turn the map off by hitting backspace or by clicking the map button again, and turn around until you see a door. Walk towards the door by pressing the up arrow. When you get to the door, press space. You are now in one of the five towns in Meridian.
• Leave town. If you want to find a monster, you'll have to find a gate and head for the great outdoors. Once you've left the city, stick to the roads. Use the arrow keys to direct your movement.
• If you inclined to fight, find a monster. Look for bright red dots on the map. Walk to the creature. Try to find a baby spider or a rat. Anything else is probably too strong for you right now.
• Attack the monster. Swing your mace by pressing the ctrl key. Watch the text box and listen to the sounds to gauge the effectiveness of your blow. Watch your health (marked by a red cross in the upper corner of the screen). If it falls below 10, run away!
• If you kill the monster, grab any loot he may have dropped. Type get or click the get button. If a dialogue box comes up, press all, and then click on OK.
• You may require some rest and healing. Go back to town and type rest or click the rest/stand button. When your health is restored, type stand or click the rest/stand button again.
• While you are resting, you might want to read the mail that your guardian angel sent you. Type mail or click the mail button and select the first message in the window. It offers further hints about Meridian 59.

Tips for advanced players

• You can ignore people you find irritating. Type who to get a list of everyone in the game. To block broadcasts from an individual, click once on their name. You will not hear anything that person says, broadcasts, emotes, or tells you.
• If you really want to be alone, click the ignore all broadcasts button in the who menu to turn off all broadcast messages.
• Everything can be abbreviated. For example, broadcast can be abbreviated all the way down to b. Names can be abbreviated as well, so tell mocker hello becomes t moc hello.
• If you want to tell to more than one person at a time, you may do so by configuring a group. Type group to get this dialogue or choose Modify Groups from the Actions menu. See Group Communication for more details.
• Once you have 30 health points, you may be asked to join a guild. Once you do, type guild or choose Configure Guild from the Actions menu to see the guild options. See Guilds for more details.
• You can tell to people with two-word names by putting quotes around their names, for example tell "lady maria" how are you? This is useful when there are many characters with the title "lady."
• You can cast spells with two word names by putting quotes around their names as well.
• You can program your function keys with the alias command or make new word commands with cmdalias. This is especially useful for spells you want to be able to cast in a hurry.
