Creating the unencrypted content

The publisher creates an image of the unencrypted part of the CD-ROM in a folder on his hard disk. This includes all of the current technical manuals and maintenance procedures (in a sub-folder called 'reference info' for tidiness).

To this he adds installers for everything needed to use the CD. This may include content viewers such as the Acrobat reader as necessary, but in particular includes the installer for SoftCD Client so that new SoftCD Client users will be able to get everything they need from the CD-ROM.

He also places an instructions document (Readme.doc) in the root of the image. This tells users how to install SoftCD (by double-clicking on the installer), and how to update their information using the publication link file in the root of the CD. (This file is not yet present, but will be added by SoftCD when the base CD-ROM is prepared). Because the publication is going to be password-protected, the instructions file also warns users that they will need to obtain the password from central IT before they use the publication for the first time.
