ACME Ltd recently learned about SoftCD and its new data security features. They now plan to use SoftCD to solve both of their problems. They have decided that both the existing CD-ROM material and the database will be included on a new CD-ROM that will be updated using SoftCD. Because of the sensitivity of the problem history database, this part of the material will be encrypted and password-protected. The encryption and password will protect the information from being read even if the CD-ROM or laptop computer is lost (or stolen). In addition, because updates can be made electronically and at low cost using SoftCD, ACME will now update all the information (both database updates and updates to specifications) weekly. Consequently field engineers will have secure access to up-to-date versions of both the maintenance procedures and the fault database while on-site at customers. |
