Setting a timeout:
In order to encourage the field engineers to keep up to date, a timeout period of 2 weeks is imposed on the initial master key amendment with a timeout warning period of 6 days. Because new amendments are planned every week, this set-up warns field engineers when their information has been replaced by more recent information and they should update it.
Users are also prevented from using SoftCD's automatic password saving feature in this case. Although this would make things simpler for the users, it would reduce protection if a laptop were lost with its CD. This is because the automatic remembering of passwords allows users to gain access without re-entering the password each time their machine is rebooted. This will continue until the publisher next changes the password from the one that they had previously entered.
