If you have a Virge card with 2MB or less video memory, this is most likely caused by a defect in the BeOS Release 3, which is fixed in BeOS Release 3.1 and above.

Another possibility is you have a Virge VX-based card, which the BeOS does not (yet) support at all. Be sure to check the hardware compatibility listing for the most up-to-date graphics card compatibility information:
