Linux Software
This month we're pleased to bring you the Linux Documenation Project. You'll need to get your hands on a JavaScript- and Java-enabled browser to view it as we intended, but if that's not possible, take a peek in the linux/ldp folder on this CD. There's a lot of stuff - (nearly) all of the 3,000-odd HTML pages, answering questions big and small, with a handy explorer-like navigation bar (courtesy of Dave Griffiths) to help you get around them. We'll try and keep this a regular feature, space (and time!) permitting, and as up to date as our printing schedule allows.
On the software front, we've got the latest version of SIAG Office. we're hosting a rematch of the battle of the desktops - KDE and GNOME. The GNOME core was updated shortly before we went to press, and since we often see postings from people just downloading KDE we thought we'd spare you the phone bill. Where possible, the files are available as Red Hat RPM binaries, which you can install using the Red Hat Package Management system, and as tarred and zipped source.
And before you dive in, remember: we're always open to suggestions for software to include in the Linux section. Post them to the pcplus.linux newsgroup or send them direct to the New Media Editors.
