Wind Instruments

The consistent popularity and high quality of Yamaha wind instruments can be largely attributed to a design policy based on three main points.

The Yamaha "top-down" approach.
No effort is spared in producing the finest professional instruments possible. The know-how gained through years of experience is applied to high-quality, affordable intermediate and student model instruments.

High-tech manufacturing and traditional craftsmanship.
State-of-the-art manufacturing techniques are indispensable in many areas, but time-tested handcrafting methods are still unmatched when it comes to making truly "musical" instruments. Yamaha combines the best of both worlds to produce some of the finest instruments available.

Constant artist feedback.
Yamaha maintains "Ateliers" in many of the world's foremost cultural centers in order to guide Yamaha technicians in their efforts. This mutual cooperation makes it possible to produce instruments that satisfy even the most demanding players and artists.

Flutes that stand apart

Yamaha flutes have been developed over decades of cooperation between some of the world's top flutists and Yamaha's team of designers. Yamaha set out to create instruments with qualities capable of pleasing even the most demanding of artists. Even the most inexpensive Yamaha flute has its origins in the insights of this century’s finest players.

Clarinets: the voice of nature

A fine clarinet has a voice rich in beauty: deep, full, round, resonant and alive. The making of a fine clarinet takes skill, patience, and wondrous wood. Yamaha uses dense, heavy grenadilla wood found only in Africa, and only in trees between 150 and 300 years old. To preserve its perfect moisture balance, the grenadilla is aged through a rigorously controlled seasoning process. Only then is the wood given to Yamaha artisans to sculpt, refine and craft.

A Subtle Renaissance in Double Reed Design

Yamaha has recaptured the wide tonal spectrum and resonance that are the treasured hallmarks of oboes & bassoons of the past. In re-discovering the beautiful sound of these cherished older instruments, we have used our high-tech design expertise to perfect playability and provide remarkably precise intonation. These oboes and bassoons possess a level of response so comfortable, so natural, that the instrument all but disappears in your hands.

Inspiring Saxophones for Every Player

From baritone to soprano, from student to top-ranking artist, the Yamaha saxophone family offers a wide range of models that will do more than simply match musical needs. Years of research go into every design, and some of the world's finest players provide vital leadership to important innovations. By the time a Yamaha instrument is ready for the world, it has been instilled with stunning tone, intonation, response, and playability.

What Makes a Trumpet Great...

The best players, designers and craftsmen harness their energies to make our trumpets. Beginning as the dreams of some of the world's greatest players, our designers work to turn those dreams into instruments. From the very top level Xeno series to beginning student models, each instrument shares the same heritage of quality. Yamaha builds a complete spectrum of trumpets from the custom piccolo models through cornets and flugelhorns. Across the world, music’s luminaries say Yamaha trumpets are the best.

Horns. No compromises.

Yamaha horns are the product of an exacting process, driven by close contact with celebrated players. This process is characterized by rigorous testing, innovative craftsmanship, and a steadfast refusal to compromise. That's why Yamaha horns feel so right, play so well, and sound so great. And that's also why they’re found in so many of the world's great orchestras.

The Choice of Professional and Student Trombonists Worldwide

Yamaha trombones represent decades of refinements in design, material, treatment, and method of manufacture. Most of the refinements are small in scope but when taken together, they are vast in effect. Yamaha trombones offer an agile, comfortable response with precise intonation. Yamaha trombones play evenly and are easy to control throughout their entire range.

All Yamaha Tubas and Euphoniums are Made with the Finest Materials.

Great materials alone won't make a great instrument. A great instrument demands the touch of expert craftsmen, guided by the intuition of great players and artists who work alongside Yamaha designers. Over the years, innumerable players and teachers have helped develop a complete line of marching brass, euphoniums and tubas suitable for every kind of player from beginning student to top professional.
