Great! So you're just getting started with building a Web Site! Good for you! You'll find it both exciting and challenging. So be prepared for both!
Before you get started here a few things to keep in mind:
• Determine what tools you will use to make your Web Site.
While these web site Templates are pretty much ready-to-go. You will obviously need some sort of tool to edit them so your can personalize them with your own web site elements. Such as pictures, music, sounds, guestbooks, page counters, etc...You basically have two options:
- A Text Editor
- A HTML Editor
Text Editors, such as Note Pad for Windows or SimpleText for Mac OS, are the lowest common denominator when it comes to editor HTML pages. After all, TEXT is a universal language between Macs & PC (and all computers) so that's why TEXT was chosen as the basis for the Web's language: HTML.
However, while Text Editors work great for advanced users who desire control at such a basic level, it is not an ideal way for beginners to work with their first Web Site!
An HTML Editor, such as HotDog Pro from Sausage Software, Page Mill from Adobe, or MicroSoft's FrontPage would be a wise choice for a beginner.
The latest versions Netscape Communicator has a built in editor, as well.
Any of the Web Sites on this CD-ROM can be edited in all the latest version of these (and most all) HTML Editors. Editing with an HTML editor is very easy, because you can see what your web page will look like and simply point & click to make changes. Something that you cannot do in a text editor.
Unless, you desire the challenge of learning HTML at a basic level, purchasing an HTML Editor should be your next step before continuing to venture further with these Templates.
Of course, the degree of challenge is entirely dependent on your skill, experience, ability, and patience when learning something new! You may find it's a lot easier than you think!
• Now, decide which method you will use for working with the Templates:
A Text Editor
