Profile Setup Tutorial - Step 2

Profile Setup Tutorial - Step 2: Website Content

Click on the Website Content Tab.

A. Select Content Type

On this tab, you will define where you feel your Website belongs in the big picture of the internet. The first choice, along the top, is the Type of website you have. Commercial, Personal, MLM or Adult. This is a very generalized selection and is used to tell AddWeb which search engines will be likely to accept your submission. Selecting a Type that does not fit your Website here can cause problems with your submission being accepted.

B. Select Main Category

Below Type, you will see a tab labeled Main Category setup and below that, a list of categories. Click on the category that best matches your site. When you do so, a list of Sub-Categories will appear in the box on the right. Select the most appropriate category there as well.

If you don't find a category that matches your site, don't worry. Find the most relevant category you can. In most cases, the resources we submit to only have a few categories available, and AddWeb 4 will translate your defined category into a more general category that they will accept.

C. Select Custom Categories

Next, select the tab labeled Complex Category Setup. At of the time of this writing, there are only three search engines that use complex categories: Yahoo!, Snap, and AOL/DMOZ. AOL uses DMOZ to supply their search results, so selecting DMOZ categories will work for the AOL search engine as well.

Select an engine and below, you will see a list of Top Level categories for that engine. Select one of them by clicking the circle to the left of it. As with the Main Categories, a new list of categories will appear to the right. Double-click on the category that best describes your website. New sub-categories will appear in this box until there are no more. You do not have to go all the way to the end of a category branch in order to submit, but you should be as detailed as possible. By watching the text above the sub-categories, you will see if you can submit to a selected category.

There are also three navigation buttons above the Sub-Category window. You can use the
Forward and Back buttons just like a web browser. Pressing the Reset button will reset the custom categories and allow you to start over again.
