Finding the Books You Want
Finding new books about Marilyn Monroe is generally quite easy -- finding the out-of-print ones is another story. For those of you who just don't have time to do the requisite combing of thrift stores and garage sales, the growth of the web offers new hope. Not only are there now online used-book stores with searchable inventories, but now there are also web sites devoted specifically to Hollywood memorabilia. Also, many specialty stores that deal in collectibles - most located in LA or New York City - will do mail-orders: with the web, it's now much easier to find out how to contact them. Below is a select list of just a few of those sources for Marilyn Monroe in print.

Used and Out-of-Print Books
Cinema Books
4753 Roosevelt Way N.E.
Seattle, WA 98105 U.S.A
(206) 547 7667
Open 10am-5pm Mon-Sat
This store, alas, does not have a web site. However, the owner, Stephanie, is extraordinarily helpful in tracking-down Marilyn books (including foreign ones), and has a nice selection of new and used books on hand as well. She does mail-orders (including international ones).
Elliot M. Katt
8568 Melrose Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90069
Phone: (310) 652-5178
Fax: (310) 652-2778
More reasonably priced than the other Hollywood bookstores, Elliot M. Katt's always has a handful of rare Marilyn volumes.
Golden Dreams
This is John Shandor's excellent web site. Though the focus is on magazines, he also offers a nice selection of Marilyn Monroe books, as well as other Marilyn-related items. This site is constantly updated, and boasts a recurring online-auction of Marilyn collectibles.
Limelight Film & Theatre Bookstore
1803 Market Street
San Francisco, CA 94103 U.S.A
(415) 864 2265
Open 10am-6pm Mon-Fri: 12pm-5pm Sun.
This store also does not have a web site. During my visit there, the owner, Roy, was very helpful in digging-up the various Marilyn-related items that he had tucked-away in different corners of the store. He also has an extremely good selection of peripheral books (that is, books that are marginally related to the subject of Marilyn Monroe): this is where I found Fred Otash's obscure book, Investigation Hollywood! Yes, the owner will do mail-orders.
Moe's
2476 Telegraph Avenue
Berkeley, CA 94704 U.S.A
(510) 849 2087
Antiquarian shop: (510) 849 2087
Fax: (510) 849 9938
Open 10am-11pm Sun-Thu: 10am-midngith Fri and Sat.
This is a general used-book store, but they have a large film section, which includes quite a few Marilyn books. Don't be fooled by the rather meager selection they show online - the actual selection at the store is much larger than that. Give them a call or send e-mail and ask them to do a search of the store.

Amazon Books
I have ordered numerous books from this Seattle-based company. They are meticulous about keeping customers abreast of what is going-on with their order, and will special-order items to boot.
