Plays

This section is comprised of dramatic works which contain characters that are based on Marilyn Monroe (whether admitted by the author or not).

Chayefsky
The Goddess by Paddy Chayefsky
Publication: Simon & Schuster. 1958. USA.

ISBN: ?
Details: Hardback. 167 pages.

A rather unflattering portrait of Marilyn as an ignorant, ambitious, vaguely-hillbilly starlet and, later, star. The character seems to have much more in common with Bus Stop's 'Cherie' than with Marilyn Monroe. This was made into a movie with Kim Stanley in the Marilyn-based role.

Eyen
Tom Eyen: Ten Plays
Publication: Samuel French, Inc. 1971. USA.

ISBN: 0-573-60038-4.
Details: Softback. 404 pages.

This anthology of Eyen's works includes his play "The White Whore and the Bit Player." The two characters in this abstract play, "the whore" and "the nun", represent two parts of one persona, and that persona is supposedly based on Marilyn Monroe.

McDonagh
Marilyn by Joe McDonagh
Publication: Pedersen Press. 1995. UK.
ISBN: 1-874523-17-7 (also listed as 1-874523-11-8).
Details: Spiral-bound. 30 pages.

Originally published in 1992, this play is spiral-bound with simple green covers, and hence does not make for an exciting photo.

Miller
After the Fall by Arthur Miller
Publication: Dramatists Play Service. 19??. USA.
ISBN: ?
Details: Softback. 83 pages.

Pamphlet-style booklet which looks to be a copy of what was handed-out to the audience at Lincoln Center. Text on front says, "Acting version, as performed by The Lincoln Center Repertory Company."

Miller
After the Fall by Arthur Miller
Publication: The Viking Press. 1964. USA.
ISBN: ?
Details: Hardback. 114 pages.

Text on front says, "A Play in Two Acts, Final Stage Version."

Miller
After the Fall by Arthur Miller
Publication: Bantam Books. 1965. USA.
ISBN: ?
Details: Softback. 164 pages.

One of the many pocket-paperback reprints of Miller's play.
