![]() HF: Not at all. I left school and took a year off between school and the university. DD: Which school did you go to? HF: Saint Mary's Cahn. It's in a town in Wilkshire. DD: You didn't go to college? HF: No, but I was planning to go to Edinborough. In fact, I got into modeling and when I left school I was so pleased to be out of it, even though I really loved it. I was very naughty and behaved badly; laughing with all my friends. I didn't love the academic work. I was okay at it but I didn't really need it. I'm really glad I didn't go to the university, because I would have just drunk a lot and done whatever matters, but probably without the work. If I had kids I would send them to an American university or college. My sister is just graduating from Brown. I love the opportunities and the way they channel you in the [U.S]. It's so important to be looked after as a student. It's awful in England because they just don't care. You're just one of I don't know how many thousands, and you have to go to the library and do your own thing. When you're 18 or 20 you need some kind of support, which the English universities just don't give you. DD: How did you get started modeling? HF: Well, I was working at British Vogue in the fashion department, faxing, sending documents and making the tea, and they said I should try it. So, I went on a few shoots and at the end of the shoots I'd do a few pictures, and it was always a disaster. Then eventually somebody said get this agent in Paris. So I stayed in Paris for a while and this agent said she would take me. DD: Which agency? HF: Fam. Fam is quite a small agency. She does sort of specific looks and they're very small, and very cool, so I went to Paris and had a very good time living with this friend who's now my boyfriend. I was studying at the Sorbonne and I was falling in love with him, so I was really enjoying myself. DD: What is his name? HF: Luke Ponte. I've been with him for three years. He's been a great friend of mine for five years. He's at a university in London. His brother lives here, so it's really nice. In fact he worked on 'I Shot Andy Warhol.' He is very cool. They're a very interesting family. They're very bright. DD: Which school is Luke going to? HF: London School of Economics. DD: What is he studying? HF: He's studying history. DD: What does he want to do when he graduates? HF: He just wants to get a job. I don't know what he's going to do. He's very good at writing. He's into comedy. He's very funny. DD: Has he done any stand-up comedy? HF: Yes, he has. Unfortunately, I think he's hopeless. He's not hopeless, he's great, he has to work on his delivery. But, he's a very good actor. He's very into that sort of thing. So, I think he'll write or produce comedy programs on the radio or television. Eventually, I think he'll be a producer of some sort. DD: Is he into the modeling industry at all? HF: Not at all. He's only a bit interested in what I do so that makes it easier in a way. I go home to someone who's not asking those questions, which is great. He's very keen. He's very encouraging, but he couldn't give a damn about it really. He's much more interested in real life. But it is also very good for me to be able to walk away from [modeling] after work.
"I'm really glad I didn't go to the university, because I would have just drunk a lot and done whatever matters, but probably without the work."
DD: How did you meet him? HF: I've known him for years. He was quite far away from my school. A group of us -- friends at my school -- got to know him at his school. DD: So is it a little too early to talk about marriage plans? HF: I think it is a little too early. But I really like him a lot. He's very cool. He's a very, very good friend. I just love him as somebody that I get on the best with, and makes he me laugh so much. DD: Do Luke and his brother have a similar family background to yours? HF: Slightly different. Their father is French Moroccan, but the same idea. DD: You grew up in Scotland? HF: Well, I always spent my holidays in Scotland, but I've always gone to school in London or outside of London. DD: You went to boarding school in London? HF: Well, actually my parents lived in London during that time. In fact, I went to boarding school out of London for my last four years of school. But, I was at various schools in London. I went to a French school when I was very little, which is great because I can speak French, which really helps in Paris. I was in and out of London. It's nice having the two -- the country and London.
