Greenwich Designer Gives Entrepreneurial Talk

The "Greenwich Time" newspaper in Greenwich, CT, reports that fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger was one of a few guest speakers hosted by the UJA/Federation of Greenwich. (The UJA/Federation is a fund-raising agency that benifits local and inter national Jewish organizations). The forum was attended by businessmen and businesswomen to hear about American entrepreneurship. Hilfiger, who is often asked to offer advice and tips, told the gathering, "Focus is the key. You have to have a very strong d esire to get to a certain goal." Besides his advice for up-and-coming entrepreneurs, he played a video tape of his success story, which traces his life and the developement of his company and advertising camapigns. He says, "I set a goal, I focused on tha t goal and knew exactly where I wanted to go."

Competition from such well-knowns as Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein doesn't get him excited. He just stays focused on what he's set out to do. Hilfiger states that he is in the process of developing a multimedia company, Tommy Hilfiger Produc tions. It will offer CD's and a TV show for "untraditional ways of advertising." Hilfiger grew his empire from a small jean-selling company in upstate New York to the $600 million Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A. Inc. of today, one of the highest ranking men's fashi on companies in the world. Tommy is now expanding his line to women as well as older gentlemen. He still has a say in all designs that go out the door!
