Obsession of the Wrong Kind
Being famous is usually a double-eged sword. On the one hand, it's great to be well known and popular. On the other hand, dealing with obsessed fans can be pretty scary. Stalkers, in fact, are becoming an ever-growing problem for celebrities. Take the cas
e of Joan Severance, one of the first supermodels to break into acting. Severance starred in the HBO movie, "Profile for Murder," which aired earlier this week. While she played a fictitious person in the film, her real life has been a total night
mare. She's been in hiding and under a protection service since being hounded by a very bizzare and dangerous stalker. The "New York Post" reports that Joan's spokesperson Frank Monte told them, "We are protecting Joan and have warned this man off
on several occasions, but he continues to intimidate her. He says he wants to initiate her into the occult and use black magic rituals for her 'rebirth through violence.'" This stalker, who is in his 50's, is a retired businessman from New York City. He
moved Toas, Montana to be closer to Severance. In addition to sending letters, faxes, gifts and flowers to her, he even managed to maneuver his way into her house once. He has been arrested and is expected to appear in court in the spring, but he's out on
bail now. Monte says that "He's bought a gun and disappeared." Just recently, Severance's home was broken into and "satanic objects covered in blood" were left in the house.
