Better Late than NeverThere were more than a few Londoners with teeth set on edge as they anxiously awaited the arrival of supermodel Claudia Schiffer. The event was the recent London Restaurant Awards ceremony. Hardly a fashion event, Claudia flew in from Paris because her Fashion Cafe was a nominee in the Best Theme Restaurant category. The crowd's anxiety stems from the fact that Claudia arrived a little late, like maybe two hours late. She was to have swept into the ceremony at 7:15 PM, but arrived clo ser to 9:00. Taking some more time to do her makeup added to the angst, but that all disappeared when Claudia strode to the stage to accept the award for Best Theme Restaurant. What did she tell the assembled as she accepted? "I really didn't expect to wi n this." That's somehow reminiscent of acceptance speeches at other awards ceremonies. |
