Cyberspace Accusing Hilfiger of Racism

The Internet -- or rather some moron using the Internet to make false accusations -- hasn't been good to Tommy Hilfiger. It seems that postings since early November pegged fashion designer Hilfiger as a racist. The story has it that Hilfiger made two TV appearances, one on CNN's "Style with Elsa Klensch" and the other on "Oprah". At both shows, Hilfilger supposedly made racial remarks and complained that Asians and African-Americans do not look well in his line of clothes. Spokespersons for both s hows were quick to report that Hilfiger has never appeared on either show. Hilfiger's company is trying desperately to track down were these rumors started and find out why if possible. He has launched a massive E-mail campaign to debunk the slurs. The " Daily News" reports that part of the E-mail messages reads, "The facts are simple and incontrovertible. Tommy Hilfilger did not make the alleged inappropriate racial comments. Whether these rumors are part of a misunderstanding or a diliberate act of mali ce, they have absolutely no basis in fact."
