Roshumba is one of a few African-American models to have achieved international recognition. Her name translated from Swahili means "beautiful," but this certainly isn't her only attribute. She has managed to use her celebrity status to help bring attention to several important causes and charities. Roshumba's intelligence, business acumen and exceptional beauty have made her one of the most sought-after models in the industry.

While working in Chicago as a medical technician, Roshumba always gravitated towards people in fashion and entertainment. Following this lead, she decided to take a two-week vacation, bought a ticket to Paris, and with one hundred fifty dollars in her pocket, went out in hopes of entering the French modeling market. Within two days, Roshumba was modeling. She stayed in Paris for a year and a half before moving to New York City.

Roshumba appeared in the highly coveted Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue for three consecutive years -- the most for any African-American model. She has been visible in virtually every top fashion magazine. While gracing the pages of publications such as Vogue, ELLE, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Harper's Bazaar and Marie Claire. Roshumba has been photographed by such internationally acclaimed superstars as Peter Lindberg, Patrick Demarchelier, Oliviero Toscani and Albert Watson.

Roshumba travels extensively throughout Europe, walking the runways for the top designers: Yves Saint Laurent, Claude Montana, Gianni Versace, and Giorgio Armani. In addition, American designers, such as Geoffrey Beene, Perry Ellis, Isaac Mizrahi, and Anne Klein also clamor for Roshumba's presence at their shows.

Roshumba is actively involved in contributing to children's causes and has donated time and energy to organizations like Hale house, Manhattan Valley, Streetworks and the United Negro College Fund. She is also a member of the Black Girls' Coalition, an organization which raises funds mainly in support of homeless children.
