![]() Economic Uncertainty Driving Cosmetic Sales upWhile Wall Street continues to wobble, the fashion conscious are showing signs of uncertainty when it comes disposable income. Hence they are foregoing the $500 dresses, and instead are looking for less expensive ways to perk up their fashion statements. That, according to the "New York Post," has made sales of some cosmetics brands soar by as much as 40% at New York's Sak Fifth Avenue."People who are nervous about spending on ready-to-wear, will buy cosmetics," Larry Hill, senior vice president and general manager of the New York store told the Post. "For those who don't want to spend $500 on a dress, a new look in cosmetics is the least expensive high." The profitability of cosmetics for Saks, in fact, is considerable. They have dedicated 12,500 square feet of selling space to cosmetics and fragrances. That's smaller by half than competitors Macy's and Bloomingdales. Nonetheless, the smaller space is as profitable. The difference may be in follow up. The store and brand managers stay in touch with customers, advising them of new products. That kind of personal touch obviously makes a difference. Of course, Saks offers cosmetics and fragrances for people who don't have to worry about disposable income. You can get three ounces of Caron's Bellodgia perfume, for example, for the paltry sum of only $1,700. Step right up. If you're an aspiring model, you don't have to leave your home to get your makeup. SUPERMODEL.COM offers the Models Makeup Cosmetics Kit (pictured) which was specially designed for models. It's available now in our shop. |
