![]() Versace Tiff Chalked up to "Hurt Feelings"During the winter and spring of 1996 the magical synergy between brother-and-sister fashion titans Gianni and Donatella Versace was seriously tested. According to an article in the June issue of "Vanity Fair," the siblings spent a frigid six months not communicating. Gianni's illness seemed to be the catalyst. While he was recovering from the cancer in his ear, Donatella took over the helm of the proud ship Versace. When Gianni returned, the proverbial stuff hit the fan. "It was a moment when I didn't feel any communication. Gianni did not feel jealous that I was there. He felt people were not giving him attention. I love Gianni more than ever," Donatella told "Vanity Fair" 's Cathy Horyn. Saying they've kissed and made up would be a draconian understatement. The enchantment is back and stronger than ever. This wasn't their first scrape, of course, nor will it be their last. Donatella's husband, ex-model Paul Beck, once thought to be Gianni's lover -- the article debunks that myth-- tells of some major battles. Calling their skirmishes the "Versace verbal dynamic," he says in the article, "I thought somebody was going to kill someone. I had to leave the room. I'm not going to be a witness to this. And the argument would be over something like where to put the sweaters in the new boutique on Via Monte Napoleone." Current and future battles aside, this has been a lifelong endeavor during which Gianni and Donatella have developed an abiding and very deep love for each other. Things might get chilly now and then, but they'll get over it. |
