Nicolas started building the foundation for his career as a talent scout at Mademoiselle, a French modeling agency based in Paris. After spending three successful years in this position he was promoted to head of Mademoiselle in 1981. In November the same year, Nicolas met Eileen Ford at a fashion show in Paris and was offered a job in New York as director of the promotion division at the Ford Modeling Agency. Nicolas, with a curious fascination about the modeling industry in America, left Europe in 1982 bound for his new venture. After a productive and successful period with the Fords, Nicolas left to start his company "Le Rep/New York" which represented top professional fashion photographers such as: Andre Rau, Mario Testino, Avi Meroz, Ken Browar, Tito Barberis, Daniel Aaron, Serge Nivelle and many others, and launched the careers of Bruno Dessange, Odile Gilbert and Frederick Fekkai. In 1985, Nicolas was invited to return to the modeling field by John Casablancas to work as his assistant at Elite New York. After gaining substantial exposure and growth at Elite, John offered him the opportunity to co-manage an agency that Elite had acquired, called Prestige New York. In 1987, Nicolas decided to leave Prestige and form his own modeling agency, called "The Group". After four successful years, The Group was acquired by Metropolitan Agency in 1990. The following year Nicolas had to move back to France and worked at Karin Models as agent in charge of special bookings and contracts. At the end of 1991, Nicolas returned to the U.S. to start Zoe Management Productions in Miami Beach. His company organized the production of any print and commercial shootings for European and American clients with booking talent, logistics, permits etc. Some of his clients included prestigious magazines such as French ELLE, Marie France, Marie Claire International, La Redoute Trois Suisse Catalogues and BDDP RSCG advertising agencies. In 1993, he moved to Los Angeles to continue and expand the production business and worked as the director of New Faces at L.A. Models. In March 1995, Nicolas opened Next Model Management on the west coast as director of the agency, which has been open since May 1995.
