Joel M. Vance


Joel Vance spent 22 years as an award-winning news and magazine writer for the Missouri Department of Conservation.

He now has three regular magazine columns in Wing and Shot, Gun Dog, and North American Fisherman magazines, and is a regional reporter for Field and Stream.

He has published three print books, one book-on-tape, and is working on a quail hunting book, due out in 1996. His books include "Grandma and the Buck Deer" ($15 softcover), "Confessions of an Outdoor Maladroit" ($22 hardcover), and a book-on-tape collection of short stories read by the author, "Billy Barnstorm, The Birch Lake Bomber" ($17). Vance is an Excellence in Craft honoree by the 2,000-member Outdoor Writers Association of America and has been awarded its top conservation honor. He also is a past president, two-time board member, and board chairman of the group. He also is a resident faculty member at the nation's only outdoor/ nature/ environmental writing workshop at Sterling College in northern Vermont. Vance and his wife have five children, two canoes, several guitars, and a banjo...and seven French Brittanies.
