Inside Angles

GUIDES TO BETTER

FISHING

by Doug Stange, Editor In Chief

IN-FISHERMAN magazine has always been written to ride the cutting edge of what's happening in freshwater fishing. We offer the "inside" scoop on the pursuit of bass; walleyes; catfish; pike; muskies; crappies, perch, and various other panfish; plus stripers; trout; and a variety of other freshwater species, from a staff and friends who have more fishing experience than any other group in freshwater fishing.

The object is to teach you how to catch more fish, as we also immerse you in the fishing scene--the hottest spots to fish, the most current ideas in fishery science, the best art, the most reflective writing, and even the best ways to prepare your catch.

While many of the ideas expressed in In-Fisherman are timeless, each magazine is also timely. In-Fisherman arrives in your home seven times a year during key fishing periods, in order to offer seasonal perspectives. When we write, we like to think we're offering a message just for you--your own seasonal seminar to enjoy in the comfort of your home.

Most of you, though, are so hardcore that you'd like even more. You fish for a variety of species, but also have favorites you'd like to concentrate on, particularly during the preseason. This season we offer even more about some of those favorite species with our annual publications, the Walleye Guide, the Catfish Guide, and the Bass Guide.

From its inception in 1986, the Walleye Guide has consistently been the highest-selling newsstand fishing annual in history, testimony to the interest level of walleye anglers, and to the consistently fine quality of the information in the guide. Meanwhile, introduced last year, the Catfish Guide quickly became the most successful introduction in the history of In-Fisherman. We plan to print even more copies this year, so the thousands of folks who couldn't find a Catfish Guide last season won't be disappointed this year.

But, at this point, we're curious. Will the Catfish Guide outsell the Walleye Guide? Or will our newly introduced Bass Guide outsell them both? The Bass Guide, by the way, primarily covers fishing for largemouths and smallmouths, although the other four black bass species (particularly the spotted bass) receive coverage, too.

Each guide is a solid learning tool designed to help you understand each respective fish species and how to find and catch them. They're comfortable magazines you can sit with before the hardcore portion of the season begins and then keep at your side as the season unfolds--right alongside the seasonal seminars offered in In-Fisherman magazine.

The Bass Guide arrives on newsstands January 14, the Catfish Guide and Walleye Guide, February 4. Or you can reserve copies that will be shipped directly to you just before the newsstand date arrives, by writing In-Fisherman, P.O. Box 2676, Brainerd, MN 56401, or phone 800/441-1740. Each guide is $5, which includes postage and handling.
