Nikon Unveils Compact
Mountaineer II ATB
For 1997, Nikon has redesigned, restyled, and basically reinvented its long-popular Mountaineer series of compact, waterproof/fogproof binoculars--and reduced the price of the new binocular series by thirty percent in the process.
Nikon's new Mountaineer II ATB (All Terrain Binocular) is available in 8x25 and 10x25 models, each featuring convenient central focusing, long eye-relief, and a click diopter for consistent strain-free viewing.
For ruggedness, Nikon's compact ATB is constructed with an all-metal chassis and lens fittings housed in a handsome, ergonomically designed metal-alloy body shell. The Mountaineer II is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed for 100 percent waterproof and fogproof performance at all temperature extremes. The exterior of the binocular is covered in an easy-grip, quiet rubberized coating.
Both the 8x and 10x Mountaineer II ATB offer long enough eye-relief (14.3mm for the 8x25, 13.1mm for the 10x25) for eyeglass wearers to view with their glasses in place.
Nikon has also integrated a new click-movement diopter control into the Mountaineer II ATB for total viewing consistency. This control, located on the binocular's right eyepiece, is essential to compensate for common left eye/right eye vision imbalance. Nikon's positive click system maintains the diopter setting until the viewer wishes to change it.
The Mountaineer II ATB incorporates multi-layered, anti-reflective lens coatings for optimum brightness, high contrast, true colors, and viewing free from flare. As in all Nikon binoculars, the Mountaineer II utilizes high-quality BaK-4 high index prisms for clear, round images without vignetting. Field of view for the new compact ATB models are: 8x=357 feet at 1,000 yards; 10x=285 feet at 1,000 yards.
Nikon Mountaineer II ATB binoculars will be available spring 1997 at quality sporting goods stores and authorized Nikon photo dealers. Suggested list price for the 8x25 is $300; the 10x25 is priced at $358. Like all Nikon binoculars, the new Mountaineer II ATB is covered by Nikon's 25-year limited lifetime warranty.
