Three-dimensional simulations of a strong lee wave event are carry out to assess the influence of the Pyrenean range on atmospheric flow.
In the case studied the mountain interacts with the large-scale atmospheric circulation and produces very interesting mesobeta-scale phenomena. The case is very well characterized by observations from the Pyrenees Experiment (PYREX) and gives a very good opportunity to test the numerical models. Some of the questions addressed are the influence of the model resolution and the importance of the orography formulation in the quality of the numerical simulations.
