Meteo-France has started since 1995 the HYDRAM project, which purpose is the determination of the rainfall amount primarily based on the radar data. This project is mainly designed to provide in the near future real-time systems to any hydrological users, like the flood warning authorities and the drainage sewer network managers in urban areas. As an example of the future contribution of radar derived accumulations to flood warning, this paper present a case study on a flash flood that occured in the city of Puisserguier (District of Herault in the south of France) on 28th January 1996 causing several casualties and heavy material damage.
