Using cloud-to-ground lightning data, a map of the frequency of storms together with the diurnal and annual distributions over Catalonia and surrounding areas are discussed. As a result, two quite different regimes -over land and over sea- are identified. Making use of objective procedures, 1008 convective cells have been isolated in a year. The analysis of this database allows us to study the zones where shooting is mostly focused and also to track some of the preferred paths.
