EXTRAORDINARY EVENTS OVER ALBANIA

Gjoka, Muτaj Liri (Hydrometeorological Institute, Tirana)

The aim of this present study is to emphasize the hazardous weather phenomena like: heavy rain, strong winds, drought, etc, especialy the heavy rain over Myzeqeja field (coastal zone of Adriatic sea). During 24 hours the precipitation height arrived 344.7 mm, which is the highest value recorded over all country. This phenomena is conected to Mediterranean cyclones.

We may mention the heavy rain falling down during the time intervals 1; 2; 6 and 24 hours over Shkodra zone in October 1949, which caused the flooding of a part of Shkodra city and the field around it.

The wind speed reached the value 40 m/s or more. They are of ten accompained by falling of high tension pillars, uprooting of trees, damages in agriculture, etc.
