In the interval 4-7 November 1995, an intense cyclonic activity of mediterranean type led to a very severe weather in the South-East of Europe.
The maximum effect on Romania concentrated in the night of 5 to 6 November 1995 when, for 8-9 hours, at different times and places but all placed on the shalted side of the Carpathians, the phenomenon of knocking down of the trees occured, being extremly dramatic from ecological point of view.
By the way it was structured, the work tried to gather the results of the silviculturists' investigation and the ones of the synoptic and subsynoptic research.
The forecasters tried to establish the intensity of the impact between the atmospheric relief mezoscale forms and the huge mountaineous range of the Romanian Carpathians taking into account the causes which determined it and also the ones which could have avoided it.
The work is devided as follows:
1. The motivation; 2. The silvic desastre ... in data; 3. Short geographic presentation of the Orientals Carpathians on which shelterred side the damaged areas lies; 4. How the knocking down of the trees occured in the native' opinion and as resulted from the silviculturist's investigation; 5. The subsynoptic evolution of the D1 cyclonic nucleus with concentrated activity above the South-East of Romania in the evening of the 5th of November 1995 and the first knocking down of the trees; 6. The subsynoptic evolution of the D2 cyclonic nucleus above the Black Sea until its fusion with the D1 mezo in the night of 5-6 November 1995 and the second series of knocking down of the trees; 7. Hypotheses regarding the air-mountain impact; 8. Comparisons with other cases from other countries; 9. The present degree of ecologic rehabilitation; 10. Instead of conclusions;
The work is the result of a cooperation between forecasters and silviculturists. Its purpose is, on the one hand, that forecasters to know the real dimension of such a desastre caused by atmospheric phenomena; and on the other hand that silviculturists to know the forecasters explanations in order to consider them in their future projects of protection of the very valuable types of Carpathians forests.
