On the 12th of September 1996 a deep and small cyclonic perturbation formed in the gulf of Valencia, between Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands. This cyclone crossed the Islands just across Mallorca, where a "V"-shaped trace was observed in the barogram of Palma, with a fall and rise of pressure of 10 and 15 hPa, lasting 3 hours. The RADAR station sited in Valencia and the surface stations of the Balearics permit to locate and draw the cyclone during 12 hours of its life cycle. Additional information about the cyclone structure can be inferred from a radiosounde ascent from Palma, just when the cyclone was arriving there. From the observations we deduce cyclone of 150 km of diameter with probably a warm core, that is, a quasi-tropical/CISK cyclone. The HIRLAM model, operative at INM, was able to give a good indication about the cyclone formation. In order to check its possible CISK origine, a dry run has been performed to compare with the operative/control run.
