Defrag_to_shutdown ver 1.0

Describtion

Defrag_to_shutdown launches the Windows Defrag program on all local fixed drives with three options:
1 Full defragmentation
2 Files only
3 Freespace only

After Defrag has completed you can choose to shutdown, reboot or no action. There is also a additional option to optimize system and hidden files, this feauture allows Defrag to move and optimize system and hidden files. WARNING! This for experimental use only, advanced users only. It has been tested and has not caused any filedamage on any testruns. Shutdown is optional and so is disabling the screensaver during defragmentation.

You can access both Scandisk and Defrag, under Systemtools, to run them the normal way. The Defrag program in Windows 98 and ME has extra settings, consult the MSKB for info (link below).

Tips and help

1. Make sure that defragmenting your harddrive(s) works without any problems when launched the normal way, Defrag will not work properly if it detects errors, and neither will Defrag_to_shutdown.

2. Be sure to run Scandisk(or any other diskcheck utility)now and then to check and possibly correct any errors found on your harddrive(s). If your harddrive(s) contains errors Defrag will come to a halt and await user comfirmation.

3. To make Defrag_to_shutdown run smoothly try shutting down all programs except Explorer (using End Task accessed by pressing Ctrl/Alt/Delete once). Virusscanners, taskmanagars and other programs that runs in the background can cause Defrag to restart and might also cause Windows not to shutdown properly.

4. Make sure your computer supports direct shutdown from Windows, if not check your bios setup. If your computer must be shutdown manually you must change this first.

If you are having difficulties with the Windows Defrag program go here for the MSKB website to find solutions.

After starting the program with shutdown enabled ,you can shutdown your monitor, since its not to any use.

License
