[ST] Low Drop Voltage Regulators With 500mA output current

[LINE]

SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics has introduced a new family of linear fixed voltage regulators offering very low dropout voltage, very low quiescent current, excellent supply voltage rejection, up to 500mA of output current and a choice of surface mounting or through-hole packages.

Known as the LF00A/C series, the new devices are particularly well suited for low noise, low power applications and battery powered systems, thanks to a dropout voltage of 0.45V (typical) and low quiescent current of typically 50uA (OFF) and 0.5mA (ON). Fixed output voltages of 1.25V, 1.5V, 2.5V, 2.7V, 3.0V, 3.3V, 3.5V, 4.0V, 4.5V, 4.7V, 5.0V, 5.2V and 5.5V, with the 1.25V and 1.5V devices having a dropout voltage of 0.9V.

All devices feature internal current limiting and thermal protection, 80dB typical supply voltage rejection, operation over the full -40º to 125ºC temperature range, a maximum DC input voltage of 40V, and a maximum operating input voltage of 18V. They are available in +/-1% (AC) or +/- 2% tolerances (at 25ºC) and require only a single 2.2uF output capacitor for stability.

The regulators are available in DPAK, TO220 and PENTAWATT packages; in the 5-pin PENTAWATT version, a shutdown function is available via a TTL-compatible logic signal. When the device is used as a local regulator, this facility allows part of a board to be put in standby, decreasing system power consumption.
