[ST] 100MHz clock-tripled 486 extends processor family

[LINE]

SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics has added the 100MHz ST486DX4V10HS to its range of x86 32-bit microprocessors. Particularly suitable for Personal Computers running the new Windows 95 operating system, the clock-tripled ST486DX4 family is fully software compatible with other x86 processors and will run all popular multimedia application programs. In addition, SGS-THOMSON's design incorporates state of the art architectural features such as write-back cache, the industry's fastest 486 Floating Point Unit and the best power saving feature via its System Management Mode.

For the ST486DX4 family of devices, SGS-THOMSON has developed a proprietary 0.35 micron HCMOS process with a low supply voltage of 3.45V, leading to lower power consumption and thermal dissipation. This new technology has also been applied to the ST486DX2 line, so that this family of clock doubled 486 CPUs is now available in both 5V and 3.45V versions.

Along with the launch of the ST486DX4V10HS, SGS-THOMSON is also introducing an alternative pin-out for its line of 486 microprocessors, which are now available both in the original and the industry standard pinout. This allows all users to take advantage of the performance advantages of the SGS-THOMSON products in any type of existing 486 motherboard.

The ST486DX4 line of microprocessors is ideal for Personal Computers and for networked Office Automation applications running x86 compatible software and the ST486 family now includes 66MHz and 80MHz ST486DX2 CPUs and 75MHz and 100 MHz ST486DX4 CPUs, all priced at around $ 0.60 per MHz (1000 pcs), making SGS-THOMSON the leading manufacturer to offer a full line of both 5V and 3.45V 486 microprocessors.
